Games are more fun if the player needs to play two styles simultanously. The challenge of balancing the styles keeps the player on their toes.
- In Xevious, the player has to play quick-and-loose when fighting against aerial targets, since he has many shots which travel quickly versus a continuous hourde of enemies. However, he must play very precisely when fighting against land targets, since he can only drop one bomb at a time, and only encounters land targets in small numbers.
- In Dynasty Warriors, the player uses brute force on the battlefield, but strategy is also used in diverting the battle outcome on a larger scale by selectively defeating opponents and gaining control of bases. Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires expands on this by adding an additional dimension where control of the entire region of China is at stake.
