Never be sorry for suggesting ideas!
There is nothing in the piecepack design that prohibits one using a
board with it. Bear in mind, though, that the piecepack philosophy
is to be a "portable" system - having to carry boards around might be
an extra hassle. That's why most of the games designed to date avoid
this "extra" component. Contrast this with IceHouse, originally
designed as "boardless" gaming tool; many of the games designed for
this require a board of sorts (usually just a simple Chess board,
though).
On the other hand, if the board(s) were simple and innovative enough,
you might be able to start a new cult following!
