This is a complete guess, but figured I'd offer it out at least as a 
discussion point ...

With the produced-for-sale piecepacks (such as Mesomorph's) being 
done with natural-colored wood, my guess is that it was more 
difficult to read yellow printing than it was to read green.

Of course, I could be way off base ... perhaps someone just liked 
green better? ;-)
