Hello Kevin,
The first prototype for the piecepack was made of hand-cut bass wood
tiles. One thing to watch out for if you cut your own tiles is that
hand sanding can easily produce a slight curve on the edges.
As far as marking goes, I used rubber stamps on that prototype. But
in another forum, I suggested the following general strategies for
marking game pieces:
1) rubber stamps
2) heat transfers
3) stencils
4) shaped markers (Crayola makes some of these)
5) freehand painting or carving
6) 3D stamps (like for leather)
7) burning (either with freehand stylus, metal stencil, or 3D stamps)
8) stickers
9) casting the pieces (in either gravity-cast metal or cold-cast
resin) with 3D markings included
10) rub-ons
Good luck with your set. I'd love to see a photo in the Photos
section of this group when you get it finished.
Cheers,
James
