Subject: [piecepack] A new game - comments welcome
I have posted a new game in the Welcome to GEM forlder of the rules in
progress section (http://tinyurl.com/48z2d). I have playtested the
game with 2 players and it seems to work realy well, would love to
hear comments on 3 or 4 player games.
Hi Sean,
The game looks interesting. One way to do a preliminary 4-player play-test of a game with only two players is to have each player play two parts but then at the end of the game count only the worst performing of each player's two parts. This precludes players sacrificing one of their positions to aid the other. In fact this scheme works quite well in many games for adding a 2-player variant to games that normally don't support 2 players.

This game, called Welcome to
GEM, is the first of 4 games I am tinkering with that share the same
story line, but are different mechanically.
In Welcome to GEM you take on the role of a gem/precious stone
extraction expert who works in deep space mining gems from different
planets. Gem Extraction Mechanics or GEM for short has just invented
a new laser certain to make gem extraction faster and easier. You and
your rivals have all purchased the new devices and rushed to a newly
discovered planet rich in gems. You must try and out smart your
competitors and extract more gems than the others.
The game is for 2 - 4 players and lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. I
addition to the standard piecepack you will need about 60 glass beads
or other small tokens that will fit on the standard piecepack board
when used grid side up.
