I recently got a Mesomorph games piecepack, and have just started
playing some of the solo games. I am thinking of making my own set
using some resources I have available to me at work.
The first thing I have is called an IOLine cutter. this machine
basically "prints" to a roll of adhesive vinyl, and I can make
virtually any design or shape i need. Perfect for the symbols and
whatnot. The other thing I have is a CNC machine. this is a big
computer-controlled router that does basically the same thing, but
cuts the shapes out of plywood, hardwood, plastic sheet, acrylic,
vinyl, etc.
My plan is to buy a sheet of 1/4" or 3/8" thick hardwood, and cut the
tiles and coins from this, and make grooves for the cross on the back
of the tiles, then cut the symbols from the adhesive vinyl (I have
red, green, black, white, blue, and light blue vinyl rolls).
I am a little concerned that using the adhesive vinyl will be
problematic for dexterity games that require the coins to slide
smoothly.
Has anyone else ever made a piecepack of 1/4" hardwood and used
adhesive vinyl for the symbols? How did it work? Would it help to put
some kind finish over the vinyl? What kind of finish should I use? Any
advice would be much appreciated.
