Newbie to Piecepack

Hi, all.  I have just found piecepack on the web and I am having a
blast trying out all the games. :)

My questions are about the JCD piecepack printables (ver 2).

At the top on the right, there is a strip with long white, short
black, long white.  What is that for??

Also... there are two stars at the bottom right.  What are those for?
