== Chess == This page is not intended to be of specific interest to chessplayers, but mainly to present stories from the world of chess that may be of general interest to boardgamers. ---- For starters, here's a curious item. I had a list of about 10 things I didn't like about tournament chess. Let's see how many I can remember (reconstruct): * While engaged in a tournament game, I made a serious effort to dominate on the board. But too many players (and how could I be sure I was not sometimes one of them) carried that attitude of domination off the board, as well. * For family reasons, I'd been removed from the middle of 4th grade and placed in a boarding school in the middle of the 5th grade (their lowest grade). This was Marymount Military Academy in Spanaway, WA. Outside of Dominican nuns, who ran the school along with a few retired military officers, it was all-male. Because of that experience, I've had a nearly life-long consciousness of, and distaste for, single-gender environments that I've found myself in. In many of the chess tournaments I've played in there were a few women players, but the proportion was very, very small. * .... more to come. -- ["John Braley"] ---- CategoryGamePage
