### 9 Comments. ### I just posted your news to the Piecepack Wiki front page, #piecepack on Twitter, the piecepack Facebook group, Piecepack on BoardGameGeek, the Yahoo mailinglist, the subreddit, and I asked Anika to post it to piecepack.net. -- [http://ron.ludism.org RonHaleEvans] 2019-10-12 21:46 UTC ---- Thanks for the announcement and heads up. Glad to see you also announce (and with Marty edit the description of) the Iron Piecepack Designer Contest far and wide (which is much more important to get out in the public consciousness). Currently playing around with a possible matchsticks game concept... -- TrevorLDavis 2019-10-13 04:43 UTC ---- You're welcome, Trevor (Marty did most of the editing). What do you think? Should we be publicizing piecepack, the current contest, etc. in places we would not normally publicize them? Imagine promoting them in Decktet-related forums, for example, as long as it's not against the rules of the site. The number of likes for the contest is pretty thin on FB at the moment, but if we take this new approach, it could conceivably have the most entries ever. -- [http://ron.ludism.org RonHaleEvans] 2019-10-14 06:40 UTC ---- I think you covered the low-hanging fruit for making sure piecepack fans are aware of the contest. But (assuming it follows the rules and interest of their users) there is probably value in promoting the contest (and/or just promoting the piecepack) in other places since I think there are still lot of potential piecepack players/designers who don't even know the piecepack exists. As you noted combination Decktet/Piecepack games are explicitly allowed in this contest (as are combo games with Icehouse Pyramids, Dominoes, and traditional playing cards). Not sure if the Mystique deck is allowed since the contest judges didn't say they owned it and no free PnP option but I think Nestorgames would like to see Mystique/Piecepack games invented as well. Besides specific synergistic game system forums one could consider general game design (contest) forums and/or abstract game forums (might be a little too niche for general free culture forums). In particular I think if one asked permission first one could be allowed to post a thread on the dedicated Game Design Contest forum on BGG, I think piecepack is already a "linked" forum to the abstract game forum in BGG: * https://boardgamegeek.com/forum/974620/boardgamegeek/design-contests -- TrevorLDavis 2019-10-14 20:03 UTC ---- Yes, that's exactly the point. Thanks for the link. Do you think you could bop around a little and promote the contest in various places like that, please? Then I can take a turn, possibly basing my choices of where to leave promo material on yours. Thanks again. -- [http://ron.ludism.org RonHaleEvans] 2019-10-17 06:02 UTC ---- To clarify: I know well I'm not your boss, and I'm sorry if I'm coming across that way. We both love piecepack, I think. I'm kind of burned out on all the low hanging fruit you mentioned. Hence, my suggestions. If you don't have energy right now either, or can't do it for some other reason, I'll circle around later. -- [http://ron.ludism.org RonHaleEvans] 2019-10-17 06:21 UTC ---- I do also love the piecepack and I'm not philosophically opposed to trying to promote the piecepack some more (which I recognize is very valuable) and don't want you to feel burned out (and in my reply I tried to use the third person instead of second person for next steps recognizing it shouldn't necessarily be you who does them). Tactically I'm not sure I'm the best piecepacker for making promotional posts in other gaming forums since normally in forums cross-promotional posts are more readily accepted by moderators and forum members if posted my regular members who also regularly interact with the forum in a non-promotional way and perhaps have acquired some social capital within that group. However I'm not an active member (nor even subscribing lurker) of any other online gaming forum, for me it is literally just piecepack on Reddit, BoardGameGeek, and Facebook and if not for the existence of the piecepack groups I wouldn't even log into BoardGameGeek or Facebook much at all and I'm trying to reduce my usage of Reddit (so I can spend more of my limited researcher-with-a-toddler free time on my hacking projects including piecepackr/ppgames). I think maybe some other piecepackers (perhaps Daniel Ajoy or Jessica Eccles?) might be a bit more active across multiple gaming forums and would be better positioned to make posts promoting the contest. -- TrevorLDavis 2019-10-17 18:41 UTC ---- Been thinking about this. If we can conscript 😁 Jessica Eccles and the current two contest showrunners in addition to you and me, we could have a five-person piecepack publicity team. With so many people (and perhaps volunteers), it would be more effective and less onerous to spread the good word about piecepack and piecepack contests... -- [http://ron.ludism.org RonHaleEvans] 2019-10-24 02:23 UTC ---- Submitted contest to [https://tabletopcalendar.com/|Tabletop Calendar]. Asked a few days ago if I could submit to BoardGameGeek Game Contest forum but haven't heard back. It seems Google doesn't want me run an ad campaign for sites I don't own. Not sure if it is worth the hassle but if you formally registered The Center for Ludic Synergy as a non-profit you could get [https://www.google.com/grants/|$10K a month in free advertising] from Google. However (besides hassle of registering a non-profit) would need to make a change to your advertising campaigns every two months, must maintain a 5% click-through-rate on ads, and each ad needs to be localized in scope (i.e. to individual countries like United States). -- TrevorLDavis 2019-11-06 07:39 UTC
